The Young People Community Project Blog.

Come and Get Involved!

The Young People Community ProjectWith the best intentions, many messages from social media and news outlets, tend to illuminate the problems of young people in the community. They hype stories of teen crisis to draw the public’s attention in. But all this does is isolate the very young people we need to support and help.  So, instead of just dwelling on the problems of disengaged young people, we have now taken some positive action and provided a foundation in which to give these young people a voice, so they can be listened to, and be heard. The young people community project Blog, is here to bring you the news of the project’s progress as it unfolds. The events, activities, forums, team activities and community engagement.

By truly listening, hearing and understanding beneath the problems of these young people, we have fully comprehended that the young people’s  excitable rowdiness, street or public park drinking, experiments with drugs and littering, are just a way of expressing their feelings and energies, in an environment that lacks empowerment or a sense of contribution.

It has been an intensely busy, but rewarding few months of active research in the community. By assessing the needs of these young people, identifying potential obstacles and challenges, creating inspirational ideas and goals, and building a valuable team of skilled support and mentors, we now have a robust framework in which to enable these young people to have the opportunity to explore and create new exciting experiences. These experiences are ones they can build on and ultimately grow and evolve just for the pure joy of it. That means climbing out of the destructive “Society box” and doing something Extraordinary which opens up their creativity and fulfilment.

With this in mind we have chosen to step outside the problem. Where we will be boldly venturing into unconventional areas, which will enable these young people to use their imagination and skills more effectively, and build on their self confidence.

The Young People Community Project, is all about supporting and helping young people from 13 to 19 years of age, who have becomeYoung People Support disengaged in the community for one reason or another. This project will enable them to discover a wider repertoire of positive adaptive coping strategies and activities, which safeguard them from harmful behaviours, and provide them with a space of their own. This space will provide young people with a sense of belonging, where respect, fairness, integrity, and trust will be at the very heart of a big team that nurtures as one big family. Here they will be given exciting opportunities in which to build on life skills and master the art of self-empowerment and responsibility.

The first phase of the project has been about setting up The Young People Community Forum, where the young people are given a platform to voice their needs, and to discuss the issues they come up against. This is about Brainstorming bold ideas and forming discussion points and topics. It is also about focusing on the journey, and creating new opportunities for them in the NOW.
